Oh my. It’s been a tiring 10 days. Starting with the weekend before inventory, and going through inventory and then getting ready for this stupid meeting in Toronto and we had two more late nights this past weekend and I won’t get much sleep tonight because the presentation is 8:30 am and we’re about 3.5 hours away. Dang.
I need to get a little sleep. I’ll have to make sure that I keep the social calendar down to a bare minimum for a little while so that I can recover.
Michelle called me yesterday. She said she had a favour to ask – she had run out of gas a couple of blocks from my place and she was hoping I could bring a gas can over. As it turns out we always keep 20L of gas on hand in case the power fails for a couple of days (I’d hate to lose the meat in our freezer!). (Ok, do you guys remember the power failure that wiped out the Eastern Seaboard a couple of years ago – the one they blamed on Ontario but was really in Michigan somewhere? That’s the kind of thing I want to be able to ride out).
Anyway, I dropped off the gas and she said that she only had a couple of bucks left until Friday (payday) and that she’d get me the money for the gas then.
If your tank is that empty shouldn’t you just park the car until payday? Anyway, I’m really hoping that she learns the value of money and how hard it is to earn (and easy to spend!) while she’s playing house.
Sherry lost her best worker yesterday. One of the other guys threw his back out and so Sherry’s guy had to go and cover his work. She’s afraid that they’re going to expect her to use the machines that she can’t handle safely. Bummer. Let’s hope today goes well for her.
I’m really excited about what’s going on at our church recently. I’ve been working on building a sense of community and I’m getting some pretty good feedback. We’re going to run a program called “Deep Coffee” there shortly and we’ll see what kind of a turn out we get for that. Let’s hope it works well!
Bayfest is closing in. I’m hoping to do some video work for the organizers. I’m meeting with one of the key people today to see if they liked my proposal. Oh, let’s hope!
Vegas is closing in too. I’m a little too tired to be overly excited about that yet, but it’s on the horizon… I need to get a little sun tanning in…
I’m thankful that I normally get 8.5 hours of sleep every night.
I’m thankful that I enjoy my social calendar
I’m thankful for a chance to show off my program in Toronto tomorrow.
I know that God has given me authority and He wants me to use it wisely.
It’s about time, but the drama is beginning to subside. Michelle is settling into her new place and she has an appointment with the guidance counselor at school to see what the plan is for her graduation.
She’s been by to pick up most of her stuff and is just waiting for a truck to be available to get her bed moved over.
She’s been living on Mr. Noodles for the last couple of days – payday isn’t until Friday and money’s been a little tight recently. She picked up a couple of packages of KD while she was here so at least she’ll have a little variety.
It’ll be interesting to see what she does about a car given that she won’t have enough for rent and her car before the end of the month.
In other news, Sherry’s birthday is this Friday and I haven’t found anything for her. Yikes. This is getting a little too close for comfort… At least we do have dinner plans for Saturday night.
Pastor George has invited me on a trip that he’s going on next week. He’s headed for a pastoral meeting a couple of hours north of here and wants me to come along. I’m not sure what our plans for our vacations days are this year – I’m not sure I can spare three full days off.
I’m thankful that I’m allowed to play
I’m thankful that I have some pretty cool toys
I’m thankful that we were created to have fun
I know that God created me with a desire to play and I know that He’ll encourage that aspect of my life.
This past Saturday I was moving dirt from a pile on to the ground as a top dresser to plant some grass seed. I came across an earthworm and was thinking that I should try and move it to my composter (I've become a tree-hugger!). Then my thoughts wandered to how thankful I was to not only have stuff that I could compost but that there were worms to turn my waste into compost. I guess I'm just a thankful kind of guy.
Here's the weird part (ya, ok, maybe being thankful for worms is weird, but it gets weirder). This week's message at church was all about being thankful.
Our pastor challenged us to list the things that we're thankful for - a task that I'm sure I can spend the next month
doing and not run out of things to be thankful for. He said to list three things per day that we're thankful for and why.
So, as a regular part of my blog for the next three weeks (at least) I'm going to list three things and why (In no particular order - if you don't get mentioned right away, don't panic).
I'm thankful that I know there's a God and that He cares about me. This not only gives me a deep sense of peace that Someone is looking out for me, but I don't need to worry about the future - He's already there working things out for me in advance.
I'm thankful for my wife, Sherry. I'm hoping this one is obvious by now. She's supportive and cute and forgiving and a great cook and thoughtful and patient and encouraging and a great kisser and creative and hard working and makes me look good and fun and a great listener and wise and insightful and warm and cuddly and grounded and she's a great soul mate and compliment for everything that I'm not.
I'm thankful for a fabulous country like Canada to live in. I'm alowed to worship freely, earn money without government oppression, be secure and know that I'll never miss a meal or be cold or lack medical care or have to go to war or worry about my water supply.
I have a lot more, but I'm going to limit myself to three a day just so I don't spend all day at this!
In other news: I put the full Vader costume on again and I think I'm good to go.
We spent most of Saturday working at the church - trimming shrubs, cutting down trees, planting grass seed. Rick helped out a lot - which is cool - it's good to see his surgery hasn't stopped him from being able to work (in short durations).
We had a fabulous breakfast with Rick on Sunday just before church
Ken's wedding is just about ready to go. Paul has a ride, my stuff is good to go, the list of things to prepare is shrinking, I have Friday off work and my hardware is all checked out and ready to go.
Michelle and I had a good weekend together - she wasn't home much but we had a good time chatting while she was.
I had a hard time running last week. I only put in about 8.5 miles and I'm up to 195 again. This is not good.
Tonight is Alpha and we'll be using a recipe that Rick likes - I suspect that means that he's going to claim control of the kitchen for the evening.
